about

‘Lip Balm' is about a relationship I was too comfortable in to question. When I wrote it I began to see things I had ignored in the relationship, real problems that were covered up by stupid arguements (like my lip balm addiction). This song allowed me to acknowledge my true feelings and regain the perspective I felt like I lost. I really wanted the video to focus on the bluntness of the lyrics and exaggerate the attitude of the song. And really, there’s no one sassier than Kath and Kim... it just felt right to lean into those iconic characters to tell this story.

lyrics

I put my lip balm on, cause I

I can’t live without it

You’d tell me it’s a problem

Like I was addicted to ice

Ah ha, ah ha

Not quite

I’m harmlessly dramatic

But you’re a whole new ball park

How’d we miss the toxic waste, spilling from our body parts?

When we held hands I used to, have to, ask you please

Please

You were always good with facts so why don’t you face them?

Opposites won’t attract if you’re always complacent

You were always good with anger, so honey let’s get mad

Dry lips were never the only thing holding me

Back, back, back

I put my lip balm on cause I don’t have to live without

Was it a good card to pull to avoid the things we should be talking ‘bout?

Like why I didn’t know, your

Parents left the coast, and

That you felt low

When I asked you said no

What’s the point of a relationship if you won’t let me close?

Lighten up, you make me so heavy

Someone help this man lighten up

You must feel so heavy

You were always good with facts so why don’t you face them

Opposites won’t attract if you’re always complacent

You were always good with anger, so honey let’s get mad

Dry lips were never the only thing holding me

You were always good with facts so why don’t you face them

Opposites won’t attract if you’re always complacent

You were always good with anger, so honey let’s get mad

Dry lips were never the only thing holding me

Back, back, back, back
